Yearly Physical Examinations

     Just as it is to humans, yearly physical exams are extremely important to the continued health of your pet. Without a yearly check-up with your veterinarian, many health problems go unnoticed and can get worse unnecessarily. From head to toe to tail your veterinarian will examine every inch before they determine the physical health status of your pet. Eyes and ears are examined for infection or injury, the mouth and teeth including the gums are observed to detect disease. The doctor will listen to both the lungs and heart sounds to grade cardiac function and the sound of the respiratory tract to asses the efficacy of the circulatory system. The abdomen is palpated to locate internal organs and structures to determine normalcy or irregularities. Joints such as the hip and bones in the legs will be examined for stiffness or pain. Finally, your pet will be given a healthy treat and good praise for a being such a great patient, but more so to ensure proper function of the tail!
