Our Veterinarians
Dr. Mary Ellen Dunning, DVM
Dr. Mary Ellen Dunning is a co-owner of the Cumberland Veterinary Hospital and a full time Veterinarian. Dr. Dunning graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1988. Her special interests include orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation medicine. After graduation, she practiced in Cornwall for several years before taking time off to backpack across Europe. She then began working in a small animal practice in Northern England near Manchester. After returning home, Dr Dunning founded Cumberland Veterinary Hospital in 1994. Her hobbies include restoring classic pinball machines, driving antique VW Beetles and keeping up with her son. She and her son, Sebastian, share their home with 2 dogs, Rogan and Tyler and 7 cats, Irish, Hugh, Mickey, Mew, Mystery, Edward and Bella. Or perhaps it should be said, the four legged kids let Dr. Dunning and Sebastian live with them!
Dr. Helen Ives, DVM
Dr. Helen Ives is a co-owner of the Cumberland Vet Hospital and a full time Veterinarian She graduated from the University of Guelph in 1990 and has worked in Ottawa since graduation. Dr Ives has been part of the Cumberland Veterinary Hospital team since 2000, and an owner since 2004. Her special interests include dentistry and feline medicine. She shares her home with a Labrador Retriever, Shade and 2 new kittens Joey and Louis! When not at work, she spends her time gardening, or taking a ride on either her horse or her Harley.
Dr. Marie Cliche, DVM
Dr. Marie Cliche is a full time bilingual associate Veterinarian at the Cumberland Veterinary Hospital. She graduated from the University of Montreal in 2000. For the next 3 years, she practiced small animal medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. From there she returned home to Canada and joined the Cumberland team in September 2003. Dr Cliche has a special interest in animal behavior. Away from work her interests include cooking and camping. Her furry family consists of 2 cats, Tom and Gerry and a Golden Retriever, Hudson.
